Magnesium Experiment

A compound is a substance made of 2 or more elements chemically joined together.
Mg=Magnesium   O=Oxygen
Eg: Magnesium + Oxygen-> Magnesium oxide
Element + Element= Compound

To test this rule, we took small pieces of magnesium, a silver-grey metal that's solid at room temperature. And Oxygen, a colourless non-metal thats a gas at room temperature and put them together. The result was Magnesium Oxide, or MgO. Our method to do this was to heat a piece of Magnesium over a bunsen burner until red hot, creating a chemical reaction that produced bright white light, thick grey smoke and turned the magnesium into a white powder.
